Moonshine Cabaret at the Sepulchre
If you've ever dreamed of finding an abandoned space and reinvigorating it with a new life and purpose, now's your chance to make a difference to the life of an iconic building and also make an impact on Hobart's arts community.
Right in the centre of Hobart is a divinely derelict, heritage-listed, gothic church – perfect for presenting creative works and for hosting boutique events.
Earlier this year, an intrepid artist took on the lease and converted it from a storage space to an arts venue and named it The Sepulchre. This, though, was the extent of the budget so the venue contains very little infrastructure and needs a bit of work to make it into the quirky and viable performance venue that it could be.
Since discovering this space, Moonlight Aviators has been working with the venue manager to identify the best options for making this a viable venue. Taking into consideration that the building is owned by a developer who will, at some stage, want to realize his own vision for the space, our plan is to install house lighting (currently non-existent); a basic lighting rig and sound system; an extension to the stage; audience seating; and a free-standing, fully-functioning bar – all of which are essential to the operation of an arts venue! These installations would all be temporary or easily removable, enabling us to transition to another space if or when the need should arise.
In order to achieve our vision for this venue, we are crowd-funding through Pozible and have a fabulous selection of rewards available. Please help us to help The Sepulchre develop into a fabulous venue, not just for our cabaret, but also for other creative groups and individuals who are also in need of a versatile space for expression.
