The Platform prides itself on adapting to industry needs and, after the changes that have developed and grown throughout 2020, this year's Platform audition process will be a little different.

In place of the previous masterclass audition and live performance, the fifth Platform Event will be offering entrants the opportunity to:

  • Create online audition videos in keeping with recent industry adaptation

  • Receive critique feedback from a leading industry professional

  • Feature in the music video for a Tasmanian singer/songwriter

  • Learn different and useful techniques from industry practitioners

  • Earn the chance to be an extra in a music video

  • Be seen by industry professionals and be considered for commercial opportunities

  • Win up to $500

COLLABORATION

Nuria is a Tasmanian songstress known for her soaring vocals and catchy beats, and this free-spirited voice is being received by audiences throughout Australia with support from community radio, ABC radio, Triple R as well as local and international music blog features. 

Classically trained in singing and piano, Nuria's music centres around voice and keys, textured with electronic and synthetic sounds. Previously releasing music under her name, Anna Maynard, Nuria is a seasoned performer with past performances including the Cygnet Folk Festival, Nannup Folk Festival, Top Half Folk Festival and as a support act for The Waifs with fellow artist Dave Crowe (aka Resin Moon). She is also a regular music feature at MONA, the Wrest Point Casino and multiple other Hobart bars and venues.

With an international career just around the corner, Nuria is collaborating with the Platform to create a music video for her recent single, Alive, released at the end of November 2020.

Submit a video audition for your chance to be a featured performer in a music video! 
This year, the Platform is collaborating with Moonlight Aviators and Nuria to create a music video for Nuria’s recently released single, Alive. We’re looking for performers across a variety of physical performance practices to feature in this music video.

Audition Requirements
Part 1

  • Create a 45-second video of yourself (only you) performing your favourite genre anywhere in Tasmania

  • Professional and Competition videos of performances are acceptable but must be current (within the last 12 months)

  • Genres may include but are not limited to commercial, ballet, hip hop, showgirl, ballroom, acro, contemporary, parkour, circus

  • Please note that partnerships are acceptable provided the participants are all integral and essential to the performance

Part 2

  • Create a 30-second creative response to Nuria’s song and concept of passion

  • This must be a sequence of your own creation and/or choreography

  • Listen to Alive through Spotify

Part 3        

Submit a 200 to 300 word paragraph about your performance aspirations. 

  • Who are you?

  • What makes performance important to you?

  • Why have you chosen this form of expression?

  • How does it ‘speak’ to you?

 

How to Audition

Register

  • Through this link before midnight on 5 January 2021

  • Payment must be received for your registration to be complete

  • Auditionees must be 13 years of age by 1 January 2021

Submit

  • Completed registrations will receive submission instructions within 24 hours

  • Video auditions must be uploaded by midnight on 10 January 2021

  • Audition videos are strictly confidential and will not be published without artist consent, or parental consent if under 18 years

Entries

  • Each entry must comprise one genre only

  • There is no limit to the number of entries that an auditionee may register

Cost

  • $30 per entry

 


Commitment
Filming

  • You need to be available for the last weekend in January, from the afternoon of Friday, 29 January through to the evening of Sunday, 31 January.

Rehearsals

  • Workshops for featured performers will be conducted on Sunday, 17 January

SECOND CHANCE WORKSHOPS

Never fear, if you miss out on submitting a video audition, you still have the chance to be involved. Our Masterclass series will not only provide the opportunity for participants to gain dance and movement experience from industry practitioners, it’s also another opportunity to be talent scouted as an extra for the music video.

Senior Masterclass

This is your chance to experience the choreography and styling you might encounter through an industry gig or a professional placement. With showgirl techniques, hints of burlesque and the opportunity to test your adaptability, this 2-hour combined industry-based workshop is not for the faint-hearted and is also a scouting opportunity for Hobart-based, vintage performance company, Moonlight Aviators.

Eligibility: Strictly for ages 16+

Moonlight Aviators

Behind the unique vintage styling of Moonlight Aviators, Tasmania's premier vintage entertainment company is a local girl with a classical background and a passion for the dance styles of the jazz era. Join Bibiana for a vintage-inspired masterclass that will keep you on your toes and will draw from the iconic styles of the age of the stage spectaculars.

Hannah Marmion

Another Tasmanian artist, Hannah has spent the last ten years high-kicking her way through cabaret-style shows on cruise ships and in Paris. One of Hannah's biggest tips for anyone wanting to break into this industry is to embrace your heels. Join Hannah for a fabulous challenge as she shares some of the techniques for dancing and performing with additional height.

Junior Masterclass

Our Junior Masterclass is an introduction to the requirements of the industry, with a focus on commercial choreography. Designed to be an educational experience for anyone planning to continue through to a professional career.

 

In brief: A 1.5-hour workshop based around commercial choreography

Beginning her dance journey in Hobart, Sydney is an inspiration to watch, capturing the attention of many aspiring dancers in a heartbeat with her beautiful technique and incredible flexibility. Sydney feels grateful to be able to share her knowledge, garnered through studying dance full-time in Sydney, with students and hopes to help them develop and continue their journey of discovery through dance.
