What happens when a manual arts teacher, with a background as a circus strongman, teams up to fuel a shared passion for dance and theatre with a classical ballet trained fashion designer?
A performance ensemble exploiting vintage dance styles with vivacious frivolity … Moonlight Aviators, that’s what! Based in Hobart, the Moonlight Aviators Flight Crew have a delightful variety of vintage dance styles in their repertoire and now, after several years performing, are putting everything together into a one-night performance extravaganza.
‘Opening Night’, an innovation of co-Creative Director, Graeme Quinn, is a vintage-style cabaret show landing at the Wrest Point Casino Showroom on Saturday, 19 March 2016 with a matinee at 2pm and an evening show at 8pm. Tickets for both shows are now available through Eventbrite.
Accustomed to executing the dance styles of the jazz era with their own unique styling, ‘Opening Night’ provides the perfect backdrop for a display of Moonlight Aviators’ versatility – and also provides an opportunity to share the limelight with an inimitable selection of local artists and performers. As a two-act cabaret spectacular with distinctly different halves, audiences will be delightfully diverted by the antics of a swathe of silver screen hopefuls, then equally entranced by the theatricality, sauciness and acrobatics of the ‘Opening Night’ squadron.
Joining the Aviators in the hangar are some of Tasmania’s best-loved musicians and performers. Matthew Ives and his Little Big Band will spoil patrons throughout the evening as the house band; local vocal sensations, Allison Farrow and Andrew Short lend a classic elegance to the cabaret; internationally-acclaimed stunt duo, PopEyed & Son, bring mind-boggling, death-defying acrobatics; and the alluring and mysterious Blythe Tait will bewitch with her siren song.
Air the fur coats, dust off hats, polish shoes and shake out the sequins …
